Pediatric Mental Health Therapy

Depression

Childhood depression is more common than you might think.

According to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, it is common for some kids to feel depressed, or persistently sad and hopeless.

Children are resilient and can learn how to care for their mental health. I teach mindfulness and relaxation skills, self-care, and coping skills to help children and teens feel better.

Anxiety

Children and teens can be negatively impacted by anxiety and stress.

Thankfully, kids are resilient and can use coping skills, practice mindfulness, learn to express their feelings in a healthy way.

I can help your child learn to cope with life’s stressors in a productive way. I implement relaxation training and help kids prepare for anxiety and stress before it gets out of control. Read more about my experience counseling in K-12 schools here.

Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Has your child or teen struggling with post-traumatic stress? Accidents, natural disasters, witnessed violence, and other trauma can cause kids to feel anxious, worried, have nightmares, have behavioral problems, and more.

TF-CBT is a researched way to help kids integrate trauma with a new way of life. It is a combined effort between child/teens (ages 3-17) and caregiver that is shown to help kids move past the negative effects of trauma. Interested in learning more? Reach out today!

From Self-Harm to Self-Care

Self-harm is any self-inflicted injury, such as hair pulling, skin picking, cutting, and more.

Asking about self-harm directly is one of the best ways a parent can address this behavior. Starting open conversations about self-harm helps to reduce the stigma and shame associated with asking for help.

Counseling helps children learn the power of their feelings, beliefs, and actions. If your child is struggling, I can help them to learn emotional expression, identifying feelings, breathing techniques, mindfulness, and more.
